Gordon Brown: "No savers will lose money"

In PMQs today.

Depends on what you mean by "money". The £ is falling and the printing presses are being dabbed with ink as we speak, which will reduce the value of each £ in those savings accounts.

Brown is being disingenuous. Again. And again. And again.

And people are comfortable with voting Labour? What planet are they on?

Devaluation by any other name, on top of the market devaluation of 30% in the past 6 months.

As every single Labour government before them has had to do, this one also has to resort to devaluing.

"The pound in your pocket...."

Savers wouldn't lose money anyway. Deposits up to £35k would have been guaranteed even if Northern Rock had gone under.

Trouble is Brown believes the bullshit emanating from his lips.

HNL - typical New Labour, they even start and don't finish their slogans.

It should be : "Go Forth AND MULTIPLY",

...but we know how we would phrase it.

Henry Crun,

Savers DO lose value. Ask a Zimbabwean.

Roger, I won't disagree with you there. The point Gordoom was making was that "no savers have lost any money" as if this was the reason for the bank bailout.

Disingenuity at its best.
