Labour MP sets aside Mace in Protest

John McDonnell is upset about a lack of a vote over Heathrow.

He shouts that it is a disgrace to Democracy.

Not arguing with that.

John does not have an unblemished voting record but he is against the Lisbon Treaty, terrorism bills and some resistance to ID cards and smoking bans, but against trident, hunting and for climate change. A Curate's Egg.

The pompous lickspittle Geoff "buff" Hoon deserves to be humiliated and his actions exposed.

Check out his voting record on "theyworkforus". Some authoritarian leanings but who knows if he has had an epiphany?

A disgrace to democracy it may be - but that is by no means a bad thing.

Democracy means the rule of men over man. Democracy means putting popular vote above individual rights.

Conversely, capitalism means the legal defence of individual rights, regardless of popular opinion - and Heathrow have the right to build an airport without government intervention.
That is not to say that the people who lived there first can have their property bought up by force, or that they cannot protest through the courts that it is contrary to the purpose of their property, but it is by no means a matter for parliament or democratic diktat.

You have a point, Tito.

Democracy can very easily be "Tyranny of the Majority".

In this case it appears to be "Tyranny of the Minority"!

If you removed the obstructions to Heathrow expansion, you should also remove the obstruction to a new airport in the Thames.

I know where I would put my money...
