Iain Dale on Small Government

Here.

Shame I do not believe the Tories would do this for decades.

There is a Party that would, though, and it isn't UKIP!

Here here. Have you heard the Tory's saying how they will ditch HIP's? In fact, they can't because of the EU, and are planning to keep the energy efficiency guff, which is most of a HIP in the first place.

It's all smoke and mirrors with that lot.

The HiP is not from the EU, but is just the wrapper for the Energy Report, which is.

Therein you have laid bare the Tories just following EU legislation while trying to spin a posture. Cynical does not quite cover it.

RT, when you say "Not UKIP" I guess you mean "The Libertarian Party". Once you chaps rename yourselves "The Pragmatic, Commonsense Party" then I'm game.

To be fair he concedes Conservatives have only sometimes paid lip-service to the concept of a smaller state.

He is advocating they now grab the initiative and assert that every new policy they announce should pass the "Smaller State Test"

In this he is right, they do need to, the question is will they - and if they did could they?

They are currently the party most likely to be able to get themselves in a position to do so and most likely to attempt it if they do.

Hardly a ringing endorsement by any means, but we sometimes have to settle for less than the optimum.

Maybe this lot will change the equation, or maybe they will be another SDP. We shall have to wait and see.

"Vote for insanity, you know it makes sense"
I know the party you mean. Lord Sutch must be turning in his grave; even he couldn't have made up this lot.
